Current Research My research activities center around making information accessible to lay people and to specialists. In the Flamenco project, we are exploring new ways to improve search user interfaces for the general public. In the Biotext project, we are analyzing the biological scientific literature by creating new natural language processing algorithms, and designing new search tools to help biologists search for and synthesize information. In the Online Social Interaction project we are studying online dating to better understand and improve computer-mediated communication. In the Information Visualization line of work we are creating innovative methods of visualizing abstract information effectively.
