Assignment 3: Project Scenarios, Comparative Analysis, and Preliminary Design

Demand-Response Enabled Appliance Manager (d.r.e.a.m.)

Scenarios

The scenarios for our project can be found on the assignment 3 scenarios page.

Revised Personas & Goals

We revised two personnas, shown here.

Updated Task Matrix

There were no changes to our task matrix.

Comparative Analysis

For our comparative analysis, the d.r.e.a.m. team looked at several existing systems that control temperature, monitor a home's energy consumption or provide centralized control over various electrical devices, including irrigation systems.

Initial Design Ideas

See our initial design ideas here.

Work Distribution

Our work distribution table reflects how our team members have contributed to the assignments.

Appendices

All additional materials for this assignment not specifically listed as deliverables are listed as appendices.

Miscellaneous Notes

  • The personas & goals section in assignment 2 has been update based on feedback from Jon. Specifically, the first paragraph of the section was moved from the persona development page to our main proposal page.
  • Based on feedback from assignment 2, we will be working to compile/tabulate answers to the more structured questions on our questionnaire. Once completed, they will be posted in our appendices section.
  • After further group discussion (on our project & its goals), we have agreed that the goal for the d.r.e.a.m. project is to incorporate dynamic pricing for all electricity usage into our interface rather than pricing based on pre-determined scales. With this in mind, we also discussed the assumptions that prices will be available 24 hours in advance & that pricing will change somewhere in the range of 5 times per day (except in unusual circumstances).
